Pursuits where creativity is central (art, writing, theatre, etc.) are the exception. For most day-to-day tasks, creativity is not central. This is different from saying "I don't value creativity". On occasions when creativity is required, I perhaps consequently value it more. This blog is a micro example!

My point is more, with many problems, creativity adds complexity.

Me: "I have a problem."
Also me: "πŸ’‘ I have an idea!"
Also also me: "πŸ˜• Now I need to think how to execute it..."

The solution is to be comfortable in copying.

Admittedly, this is not groundbreaking. However, I want to discuss how this can be applied in our *personal* day-to-day lives. Despite living standards with our parents' generation (depending on where you grew up) not being massively different, one great privilege *our generation has* is travel. As people travel further and more frequently, one of the great benefits is taking ideas we discover back home with us. Significant in the form of outlook and philosophy; insignificant in the form of USB females on 230v wall sockets! πŸ”Œ

This is your sign to make a note called 'Taking the best bits from others'. Update it regularly. This is a place for you to make notes when you see something that you like and works for you, when on your travels - near or far.

I started doing this a couple of years ago and it's been so fun to update and discuss with my friends. For example, below are some notes from a section INTERIOR DESIGN.

  • Dining tables as long, wooden benches. πŸ‡©πŸ‡°
  • USB charging on wall sockets. πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ
  • Underfloor heating. πŸ‡©πŸ‡°
  • Kitchen as the most important room in the house. 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
  • Connected indoor dining and outdoor dining. πŸ‡«πŸ‡·
  • Two dishwashers for simple storage/washing. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ
  • Washing machines and dryers that load from the top. πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

The flags indicate where I got the idea from. Keeping such a log has been good as I consider how I wish to decorate the home I purchase.
